Three AI tools that you should try !

On November 7 and 8, two intense days of conferences were held in Nice, as part of the European IQ Media project. Dedicated to innovation in the media, these days brought together renowned professionals from all over Europe to debate and exchange views on the current and future challenges facing the media industry. Among them, Catherine Sotirakou led the workshop :  “Using AI in the newsrooms”.

A particular interesting workshop was about how to use AI in the newsrooms. It has been leaded by Catherine Sotirakou, the Director of the IQ Media Hub. She was comforting : the goal is not to get the perfect control of all the AI tools but to know what exists and try to use them ! The main idea is also to keep in mind : every time, YOU have to check the results !

💡 The applications in journalism are several :

  • production of texts, summaries, headlines and newsletters
  • production of images, graphics and videos
  • copy editing and proofreading
  • news verification
  • translation and transcription
  • social media, scheduling of publication, customization
  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

🚨 We asked her a practical advice. If you should advise three AI tools to try, which ones would you give ?

🥇 The number one : Notebook LM (notebooklm.google)

“This can make your work so easy !” comments Catherine. You can use it for many activities. Import PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs documents or Google Slides presentations. NotebookLM will summarise them and make interesting links between themes. You can also generate a podcast which is quite “magical” with a conversation tone.

🥈 The second one : Midjourney (midjourney.com)

“Really good tool to create pictures but not for news”. An image generation very easy to do. “You have just as what you want !”. But as always, the more important is having a good prompt. And one good idea is “to ask Chatgpt to do the prompt for Midjourney, it’s the best strategy”.

🥉 The third place on the podium : Claude.ai (claude.ai)

“It’s the new thing, it’s amazing like Chatgpt”. If you have already tested Chatgpt, go for this new application. Claude is a next generation AI assistant built by Anthropic.

You can have conversations, exchange ideas and analyse documents. It even has some vision and code analysis capabilities, allowing it to understand and process images and write basic code.
