Associação Portuguesa de Imprensa hosted the IQMedia Collaboration meeting in Lisbon

Last week, the IQMedia project successfully hosted its transnational meeting in Lisbon at the headquarters of the Associação Portuguesa de Imprensa. Under the Collaboration Pillar, representatives of the participating media organisations from Portugal, France, Greece, and Cyprus gathered to present their collaborative projects. These initiatives focused on the development of new innovative products and services to optimize the production and distribution of news content to meet their evolving business needs. Additionally, in-house workshops were conducted as part of the user-centered design process, focusing on prototyping the projects.

More specifically, Greek newspaper “Kathimerini” and Portuguese press association “Associação Portuguesa de Imprensa” (API) have identified a growing need to combat declining news consumption, especially among younger audiences such as Gen Z and Millennials. These segments are increasingly disengaged from traditional news formats due to an overload of negative content and a lack of personalized, uplifting stories.

Their project called “Elevate” aims to address these challenges by creating a tailored “Mood-Lifting News Hub” that will provide meaningful and inspiring news experiences. Leveraging AI-driven sentiment analysis and personalization, the platform will curate positive content based on user preferences and engagement patterns, ensuring a more engaging and uplifting news experience. By focusing on mental health awareness, positive media consumption, and personalized digital experiences, the solution intends to re-engage younger audiences, enhance trust in media, and foster long-term audience loyalty.

Moreover, media organizations “Alpha TV Cyprus” and “Liquid Media” from Greece, have recognized the growing demand for video content on digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. As video content continues to surpass traditional text-based articles in terms of audience engagement and shareability, there is a growing need for newsrooms to rapidly scale video production without incurring significant time or resource costs.

To address these challenges, the project called “VidNews” was created. This AI-powered tool will transform written news articles into high-quality, engaging video content with minimal human intervention. By leveraging AI for script generation, text-to-speech voiceovers, and automated video editing, the tool will streamline the entire video production workflow. This tool will empower journalists and content managers to produce cost-effective, professional video content at scale, helping news organizations meet the growing demand for dynamic and visually engaging news formats.

Finally, the French newspaper “Nice-Matin” recognized that subscriber retention is critical in a competitive digital landscape where gaining new subscribers is 10 times more expensive than keeping existing ones. With rising subscription cancellations due to content irrelevance, lack of time, and cost, there is an urgent need to better understand audiences and provide personalized content experiences.

To address these challenges, “Nice-Matin” is designing an AI tool called “The Tailor.” This solution will personalize newsletter distribution by leveraging behavioral data, audience preferences and advanced segmentation. It will automatically track and analyze user interactions to create and distribute personalized newsletters that increase audience engagement, strengthen emotional connections and enhance perceived subscription value. By using AI-powered recommendations, organizations will be able to improve content strategies and build long-term subscriber loyalty, while effectively scaling content personalization.
